Plant-based diet linked to quality-of-life
A study recently published in Cancer found that a greater consumption of plant-based foods is associated with higher quality of life.
Stacy Loeb, M.D., Ph.D., and colleagues studied the relationship between plant-based diet indices after prostate cancer diagnosis and quality of life in a prospective cohort study involving patients with nonmetastatic prostate cancer.
The researchers found that better scores for sexual function, urinary irritation/obstruction, urinary incontinence, and hormonal/vitality were seen in association with a higher plant-based diet index.
The researchers advise that “individuals with prostate cancer who incorporate a greater amount of plant- based foods into their diet could reduce the risk of comorbid conditions and also improve functional outcomes.”
