Analysis Finds No Link Between Vasectomy and Prostate Cancer
The association between prostate cancer and vasectomy has been studied for 30 years, yet the debate continues as to whether there is a connection. An analysis looked at data from 53 studies and found no significant association between vasectomy and high-grade, advanced, or fatal prostate cancer. There was a 0.6% absolute increase in a patient’s lifetime risk of prostate cancer after having a vasectomy, which the study authors said was unlikely to be causal and should not discourage the use of vasectomy as a contraceptive option.
