Micro-ultrasound may reduce unnecessary biopsies
Micro-ultrasound (MicroUS) is an advanced imaging technology used to detect prostate cancer in men. It has high resolution and is as effective as MRI in identifying clinically significant prostate cancer. Researchers are studying how to best use MicroUS, and ongoing studies will provide
more information. It also shows promise in assessing the extent of cancer spread and monitoring prostate and bladder cancer. While MicroUS has the potential to replace traditional methods like standard transrectal ultrasonograpy and MRI scans for prostate imaging and biopsies, further research, including
the OPTIMUM trial, will help determine its optimal use. Overall, MicroUS is a promising tool for early detection and monitoring of prostate cancer.
