Early prostate cancer deaths among men with higher vs lower genetic risk
Researchers reported differences in the risk of early prostate cancer death among men with higher vs lower genetic risk. They performed a combined analysis with a 20-year follow-up of genotyped men without prostate cancer in 2 prospective cohort studies including nearly 20,000 men in Sweden and the US.
They categorized men according to their polygenic risk score or family history of cancer and their modifiable lifestyle behavior.
They found that men at higher genetic risk had more than a 3-fold increase rate of early and more than a 2-fold increase rate of prostate cancer death, of which one-third were estimated to be preventable.
