Update on Benjamin R. Sokol, Grandson of Jules Reichel
In the Summer/Fall QUEST, our readers were introduced to a rising star in the opera firmament:Benjamin R. Sokol. This year, 2024, has been an exciting one for Benjamin as he was named a winner of the 2024 Opera Index Competition as well as the Mario Lanza Competition in Philadelphia.
On November 10, Benjamin was named the Philadelphia District of The Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition winner. He will compete in the Regional Competition at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., on February 2, 2025. Winners of that contest will move on to the Semi-Final Round at the Metropolitan Opera House.
In May 2025, Benjamin will begin a professional opera contract at the Ryan Opera Center at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. He is elated to begin this new chapter of his life in the wonderful city of Chicago.
